About Jeff
Hiya, and welcome to my website. I am Jeff Cox, and yes, that is my real name. I go by the Portrait Whisperer because there are already 2 or 3 other Jeff Cox’s out there doing photography and I don’t want to be confused with them. If you made it this far, then I’m guessing that you already know that I am a photographer, and that you can hire me to photograph you or your family. But I suspect that there are a couple things you don’t know about me. One being that I am from the south….waaaay south….and a little west. I am originally from Okla, but throughout my life I’ve spent time there and in Texas and a couple other southern states. So yes, I have a southern accent. I get asked about it all the time. Nobody ever believes me when I tell them I am from north Philly. No idea why *shrug* . The other being that I do business with a kindness and friendliness reminiscent of the spirit of the south. I was raised up to be honest and caring, so I treat each of my clients as if they live next door to me and I have to face them every day. I give friendly, efficient, personalized and professional service to everyone who contacts me about my work. I honestly feel that it’s the little things like that, that make people glad they chose me as their photographer.
With millions of camera owners out there in this world….why in the world did I decide to become a pro photog? Well, I am a father of teen twins. When they were around thirteen I shopped around for prices on some nice outdoor portraits of them. Ugh !! Holy cow ! $400?? $500?? Prints were crazy too. $25 – $50 for an 8×10?? Honestly, I felt like that was a ripoff. I realize that a lot of skill and time and expensive equipment goes into doing great photography, but …$500??? So I decided to become a pro photog and show them that I could do what they do for less than half of what they do it for. And I did. I started from scratch and figured it out on my own. Step by step, And I’m still doing it. How can I ? I keep my costs low. I don’t have a secretary or high overhead. If you call or message, I respond personally. I don’t show up with a crew of 3 assistants and spend an hour setting up a bunch of useless lights and reflectors. It’s just me and my camera and maybe a light or two. That’s how I roll ! (always wanted to say that)
As you can see in my slideshow, a lot of what I do these days is with female models. However, first and foremost, I am a portrait photographer. I shoot families and babies and pregnant women, birthday parties and weddings. Book covers for hospitals and cd covers for up and coming musical artists. Oh and don’t forget billboards for insurance companies. I live to photograph not only what the eye can see, but also what the heart feels clearly. I love it, for those special moments that make your heart melt or pound wildly are indeed the spice of life!
